One of the top prospects in the 2012 class is having a tough time with his recruitment as most recruits do around this time of year. That recruit is 6’5 super smooth and electrifying, combo guard Archie Goodwin of Sylvan Hills HS Little Rock, Ark. Last night after the Kentucky coaches left his home Archie called to tell me what was weighting heavy on his mind and that’s why he is having a change of heart about committing and signing during the spring period. Here’s what he said last night.
Icuplay: Hey Archie how is it going and how was your in home visit with the Wildcats?
AG: Everything went well. Boy, I’m so excited but coach I don’t know what to do right now. I had to call you and tell you I’m having a change of heart about waiting to commit and sign in the spring.
Icuplay: That’s all right Archie. This is your life and you got to do what is best for you. The night before I received several phone calls that you had tweeted something to the fact that you were ready to commit to a school, what was that all about?
AG: Yes, I did tweet something like that. Call it thinking out loud and unclear what I wanted to do. It’s like this coach. My family and me sit down and talked about my recruitment. I said, I want to do it later, but I’m ready to do it early now. I was going to wait but, I feel I know which school I want to go to. I want to get this over with so I can move on with my life and be happy at the same time. I’m ready to start the season and win a state title. I want to put this behind me so I can focus and concentrate on my school work and the upcoming basketball season.
Icuplay: So you and your family agree it’s time to get this over with and you know what school you want to go to, so what are you waiting for?
AG: I want to visit the schools that are recruiting me. I go to Kansas next week 9/24; then to Uconn 9/30; to Arkansas on 10/8; to Kentucky 10/14; and on to Memphis 10/21
Icuplay: So it looks like you are going to make all of your visits before you commit to that school, I’m I right?
AG: Right, now that’s what I plan to do. But today I know what school I want to go to.
Icuplay: What can you tell me without telling me the school you are ready to commit too?
AG: I grow up watching his teams play. I like him as a coaches and the way he coaches his team. His current and former players love him and I can see him helping me while I’m playing for him and he can help me get to the next level and that’s the NBA.
Icuplay: Archie it looks like you and your family has done your home work on this. I can hear it in your voice that you are ready to get this over with?
AG: Yes, coach, I am ready. I’m also planning to do my commitment announcement live on ESPNU too. I just wanted to share that with you.
Icuplay: Archie I know how you feel. I always tell someone in your shoes this: “Two of the hardest things for a young man to do leaving high school is pick which college he will attend and which girl he is going o marry”. So, far it looks like you have one down and one to go. Good luck Archie on the school you choice after your visits. I’ll be in Little Rock to see you rock-the-house this season and to see if you are still worthy enough to become a future McDonald’s All-American Game selectee.
AG: Thanks coach, talk with you later, good night
GO BIG BLUE!
